The thing worth knowing

Holding 300 litres of water at 30°C in a 19°C room never stops, and the losses scale with that difference. This is why waterbeds have a reputation for surprising bills — the mattress is a large, poorly insulated hot water tank you sleep on, and unlike a real tank nobody insulates it.
