The thing worth knowing

Baseboards are usually counted one room at a time and then the bill arrives for all of them at once. Multiply by the number of units actually calling for heat, not the number installed.

Against heat pump (heating)

Line-voltage programmable thermostats on each unit, and closing the door to rooms nobody is in. In numbers: an electric baseboard heater costs $218 a year on these assumptions, and heat pump (heating) doing a comparable job costs $423 — a difference of $205 a year, or $2,052 over ten years at today’s rate.

Both at 18.34¢/kWh, each on its own standard usage assumption. Ten years is roughly the service life of either.
