Why this is lower than the number you will see elsewhere

Nothing here is hidden, so you can check it or change it. Working in the order the formula runs:

  1. 2,000 W — what it draws while it is actually drawing. This is the rating on the plate.
  2. × 45% — the share of its in-service time it is really pulling that. Full power to bring to heat, then cycling or modulating to hold a simmer.
    That gives 900 W averaged across the hours it is on.
  3. × 0.75 hours a day × 330 days — Around 45 minutes of cooking a day across two rings.
    900 × 0.75 × 330 ÷ 1,000 = 223 kWh a year.
  4. + standby — 1 W for the other 23.3 hours a day, which is 7.7 kWh a year. People leave this out and it is not always small.

The thing worth knowing

Induction puts roughly 85% of its draw into the pan against about 70% for radiant and 40% for gas, so it reaches temperature faster and spends less time at full power. The saving is real but modest in dollars, because cooking is a small share of a household’s total.
