Why this is lower than the number you will see elsewhere

Almost every published answer to this question multiplies the rating on the label by the hours the appliance is switched on. For a kegerator that gives 832 kWh a year, or $153.

The thing worth knowing

A kegerator works harder than a fridge of the same size because part of it is deliberately outside the insulation. The tower is a metal chimney conducting heat straight into the cold space, which is why tower cooling fans exist and why the duty cycle sits above a normal refrigerator’s. Running one seasonally rather than year round roughly halves the annual figure.

Against mini fridge

An insulated tower or a tower cooling fan reduces the load rather than adding to it, because it stops the compressor fighting a permanent thermal bridge. Switching it off between kegs is the bigger saving. In numbers: a kegerator costs $64 a year on these assumptions, and mini fridge doing a comparable job costs $48 — a difference of $16 a year, or $159 over ten years at today’s rate.

Both at 18.34¢/kWh, each on its own standard usage assumption. Ten years is roughly the service life of either.
