Why this is lower than the number you will see elsewhere

  2. × 100% — the share of its in-service time it is really pulling that. Runs only while filling the pressure tank. Hours per day is the sum of many short runs.

The thing worth knowing

A well pump that starts more often than about ten times an hour usually has a waterlogged pressure tank, not a water problem. Short-cycling wears the motor out and quietly adds to the bill.
