Why this is lower than the number you will see elsewhere

  2. × 100% — the share of its in-service time it is really pulling that. A single-speed pump draws its full rating for every hour it runs.

The thing worth knowing

Pump power rises with the cube of flow rate, so running at half speed uses about an eighth of the power per hour. Because you then run twice as long for the same turnover, a variable-speed pump can cut pool pumping energy by roughly 70%. This is the largest single saving available to most pool owners.
